Nicholas's day at the plate was a fly ball to short and a bunt that moved Martin Phelan to third — but the game turned on his right arm. Handed a 5–4 deficit in the top of the fourth, he gave up a leadoff double and the run that scored it, then got two ground balls and a called third strike to keep it 6–4. The bottom half did the rest: two walks, Nathan Walker's game-tying triple, and Ellis Ohanian's walk-off groundout. One inning, eighteen pitches, and the win.
